How Often Should One Forgive Another?
The answer might surprise you
There once was a man named Cain.
Cain was a farmer who had offered a sacrifice of a portion of his harvest to the one who brought life into the world. However, because of things that nobody alive would know about these days, his offering was displeasing to the creator. It was his brother who had the most pleasing offering to the maker of life, an offering from his flock of sheep.
Now Cain was jealous of his brother, Abel. This jealousy was so great, so potent, that the creator had to talk with Cain about it. However, it wasn’t enough.
The next time Cain saw Abel… would be the last.
As Abel lay on the ground, dead from his brother murdering him, the creator asked Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?”
“I don’t know,” Cain answered. “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
Soon enough, the creator had Cain set in exile, made to never settle in one place ever again. He then got a mark on his body that signified that nobody was to kill him, under penalty of being avenged sevenfold.
Later, his descendent, Lamech, had a dangerous encounter with someone and had to kill them. He then decreed that, if Cain were to be avenged sevenfold, then Lamech would be avenged…
